image

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour plus 1½ teaspoons baking powder.
  • ¼ teaspoon finely ground salt.
  • 1 cup of almond, 2% whole milk, or buttermilk milk.
  • 1/8 teaspoon cane sugar.

Preparation:

Grate ½ stick of butter using a cheese grater.

Prepare your pan: Use a cast iron skillet, coat the base and sides with butter, and dust all-purpose flour over the butter, shaking off any excess. Set aside.

Gently dust the cutting board with flour.

Oven: Preheat the oven to 450 degrees.

Directions:

Step 1:

Add grated butter to flour.

Step 2:

Work the butter shreds into the flour with your hands for 2 to 3 minutes until it forms coarse crumbs.

Step 3:

Make a well in the center of the flour mixture and add 1 cup of your preferred milk. Gently fold the mixture by hand, being careful not to overmix.

Step 4:

Place the dough on the floured cutting board.

Step 6:

Press down with your hand, flipping and pressing until flat. Be careful not to overstretch. When it reaches about 1 inch in thickness, use a biscuit cutter to cut into shape.

Step 7:

Place cut-out dough in skillet. Put it in the heated oven for 12 minutes.

Step 8:

Check for tenderness. When ready, remove the biscuits from the skillet and place them on a baking dish. They are ready to serve.
